Understanding the Problem

What Is E-Waste
& Why Does It Matter?

The digital revolution has transformed how we live, work, and connect. But every phone upgrade, every replaced laptop, every discarded charger adds to a growing global crisis — electronic waste, or e-waste.

E-waste is the fastest growing waste stream in the world. India alone generates over 3 million metric tonnes of e-waste annually, and only a fraction of it is recycled responsibly. The rest ends up in landfills or is informally processed, releasing toxic substances into the soil, water, and air.

At Solutions, we believe that being a responsible technology retailer means taking ownership — not just of what we sell, but of what happens to it at the end of its life.

E-Waste Defined
"Waste electrical and electronic equipment, whole or in part or rejects from their manufacturing and repair process, which are intended to be discarded."
Electrical & Electronic Equipment
"Equipment which is dependent on electrical currents or electro-magnetic fields to function fully — including mobile phones, laptops, tablets, accessories, and peripherals."
Legal Framework
Solutions complies with the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022, notified by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India.
Why It's Urgent

The Impact of
Improper Disposal

Electronic devices contain hazardous materials — lead, mercury, cadmium, and more. When dumped carelessly, they create lasting damage across multiple ecosystems.

Soil Contamination
Toxic substances from e-waste leach into soil, affecting plant life and entering the food chain through crops grown in contaminated earth.
Water Pollution
Heavy metals seep into groundwater and rivers, contaminating drinking water sources for millions of people and harming aquatic life.
Air Pollution
Burning e-waste releases dioxins, furans, and other toxic fumes, contributing to respiratory illness and accelerating climate change.
Health Hazards
Informal e-waste handlers face direct exposure to neurotoxins that cause severe health conditions including cancer and developmental disorders.
Resource Wastage
Devices contain gold, silver, copper, and rare earth elements. Landfilling them wastes valuable materials that could be recovered and reused.
Growing Crisis
Global e-waste is projected to reach 74 million metric tonnes by 2030 — making it the world's fastest growing domestic waste stream.
Benefits of Recycling

Why Recycle
with Solutions?

Proper e-waste recycling creates a positive chain reaction — for the environment, the economy, and the community.

Conserve Resources

Recycling just one million mobile phones recovers 35,000 lbs of copper, 772 lbs of silver, and 75 lbs of gold — materials that would otherwise require destructive mining to extract.

Save Energy

Manufacturing from recycled materials consumes significantly less energy than producing from raw materials — reducing greenhouse gas emissions at every stage.

Prevent Pollution

Responsible recycling keeps toxic materials out of the environment, protecting air, soil, and water — and the health of communities who depend on them.

How It Works

4 Easy Steps

Dropping off your old devices is simple. Here's how you can participate in our e-waste recycling programme.

01

Collect Your Old Devices

02

Keep E-Waste Isolated

Store your collected e-waste safely in a bag or box, away from regular household waste. Do not attempt to dismantle or break open any device.

Best Practices

Do's & Don'ts
for E-Waste

Do's

Always hand over e-waste to an authorised recycler or collection point for safe and legal disposal.

Store non-functional devices in an isolated area away from children and regular household items.

Wipe personal data from all devices before dropping them off for recycling.

Keep the original packaging or a protective bag for transporting e-waste to prevent accidental damage.

Ask us about trade-in or upgrade options before recycling — your old device may still have residual value.

Don'ts

Do not throw e-waste into regular household bins — this is illegal and environmentally harmful.

Do not dismantle, break open, or attempt to repair electronic devices yourself — leave this to authorised service personnel.

Do not sell e-waste to unauthorised scrap dealers or roadside kabadiwalas — they often use unsafe methods.

Do not leave replaced spare parts or batteries exposed outdoors — they can leak harmful chemicals into the ground.

Do not burn or incinerate e-waste under any circumstance — this releases highly toxic fumes into the atmosphere.
